Dr John Clarence Webster (1863-1950)

The residence of one of Canada's most renowned historians, John Clarence Webster, was built in 1913-14 in the typical Dutch Colonial Style of New England by the architect Wm. Ernest Walker
from Chicago, IL.

The Websters would spend most of their summers in Shediac. In 1920, after years of tireless work and hectic schedule, John Clarence decided leave Chicago and return to his hometown where he would spend the last 30 years of his life.

The estate has been a private residence most of its existence, other than a few years where it was operated as an Inn. The current owners purchased the property in 2004, and has re-opened as a Bed & Breakfast in June 2016.

Born in Shediac, New Brunswick in 1863, his first career as a doctor, researcher and practitioner in medicine, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology brought him fame and established himself as a renowned figure throughout the medical world.

Dr. Webster's second career is no less remarkable. For anyone attempting to research Canadian history, the name John Clarence Webster is sure to come up. He was recognized as an authority on many illustrious English and French figures in early Canadian History.

A legendary figure himself, Dr Webster received his fair share of acknowledgments over his impressive career. Receiving honors from Canada, England, France and Italy, as well as being awarded honorary doctorates from five universities.
